Healthy Diet: Expectations vs. Reality

Many people throughout the world want to lose weight and get in shape. So it’s no surprise that there is a plethora of diets claiming to help you lose all of your weight and achieve the physique of your dreams.

So, when you begin with a diet, you expect to lose weight regularly and simply since everyone makes it appear so simple. However, you rarely hear someone who went on a diet talk about the tough stuff and how difficult it was for him or her.

When it comes to diets, there are a lot of expectations, and if you don’t get the desired result that someone else did, it can lead to the belief that the diet didn’t work and that you’re doing something wrong.

I’m here to discuss the truth about diet expectations and the reasons why holding yourself to them would prevent you from achieving your objectives.

Expectation 1: You simply need to eat less.
While this is true, many people cut out WAY TOO MUCH to the point where it affects their hormones and energy levels, and they still don’t achieve the results they had hoped for.

Reality 1: is that you simply need to consume somewhat less.
Yes, I did say somewhat. Your body still requires calories to function. When you restrict your diet too much, your body will stop burning and digesting food to its maximum capacity.

Because it isn’t getting enough and doesn’t know when it will, your body will begin to store some fat for later use. Plus, if you cut out too much, you’ll reach a plateau and wonder why you can’t seem to go through it.

All you have to do is consume a little less than your body burns on a regular basis. This will vary from person to person, but I recommend tracking the food you regularly eat on a daily basis for one week without changing your eating habits.

Check your weight to see if it has changed or if it has remained stable during the week. If you gained weight, you are still eating excessively. You should eat slightly less if you want to maintain.

This will provide you with a baseline to identify where you are and what improvements you need to make.

Expectation 2: You will never be able to eat your favorite foods again.
If you enjoy ice cream, chocolates, alcohol, pizza, burgers, and so on… I’m sure you’ve been taught that if you want to achieve your objectives, you won’t be able to enjoy things anymore.

But what happens when you eliminate everything you adore?

Reality 2: You can still eat and drink in moderation.
The truth is that you don’t have to give up all of your favorite foods forever since they have a time and a place. Plus, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to lose weight while still doing your favorite things? I do!

In this case, moderation is essential.

If you want to continue doing some of the things you enjoy, you should do the following:

You choose two cheat meals per week.
Don’t make it a cheat day; keep the rest of your meals wholesome.
Don’t neglect your workouts.

Expectation 3: You can lose 10 pounds or more in one week.
That would not only be insane, but you would most likely not be yourself.

I can only think how miserable you would be if you had to give up everything simply to lose weight for what? You should not be unhappy while attempting to reduce weight, and it should be a positive experience for you.

Reality 3: Rapid weight reduction equals rapid weight gain
If you lose weight quickly, you will most likely gain it back quickly, if not faster than you lost it.

You should strive to lose 1-2 pounds every week. As a result, it will be easier to maintain without fluctuating weight, and you will be able to observe progress more consistently without being unhappy in the process.

That means you can lose 52-104 pounds every year and keep it off permanently!

Expectation 4: You must eliminate carbs.
Yes, avoiding carbs can assist some people. However, it is a different story when it comes to maintaining weight loss over time.

Why would you strive to eliminate all carbs if you enjoy and even crave them?

Reality 4: Carbohydrates are an excellent source of nutrition.
Carbohydrates are our bodies’ primary source of fuel, and cutting them out means you’re missing out on a plethora of essential nutrients.

They are a source of fuel and help to regulate hormones. Eliminating them can cause weariness and cravings. This will eventually cause you to lose sight of your goals and acquire undesirable eating habits…

Carbohydrates in your diet can help you stay on track and provide you more energy to push through your workouts and get through your day.
